The Flying Pig Pub + Kitchen is one of Oceanside’s most popular restaurants. It is consistently full and fits a much-needed niche in the Oceanside food scene. It has been on my list forever and I finally made it around to going last night. I would call the Flying Pig a gastropub with a pork-centric menu that strives to offer a higher level of complexity in flavor and creativity you see in any other pub food in Oceanside. Chef Mario Moser was a Chef De Partie (or station head) at Nine Ten in La Jolla before coming to head the kitchen at Flying Pig. His menu reflects farm to table comfort food that fits the casual gastro-pub setting. 12 beers are available on tap with about 20 by bottle with a mix of local and California brewers making up the main choices. They also have a larger wine list than most gastro-pubs.


Fresh Ground Pork Burger – tempura onion, ‘626’ sauce, fried farmers egg,sharp cheddar & house vinegar fries.
