I made it back to Solace and Moonlight Lounge in Encinitas for a full lunch after previously having one of their appetizers during a lunch stop with a local chef, who loves the place and Executive Chef Matt Gordon. After my first visit I was impressed and now after my second I deffinently want to explore more of what the menu has to offer and visit his other restaurants.
Solace and Moonlight Lounge is located off HWY 101 in Encinitas, CA at 25 East E St. It is Matt Gordon’s second of three restaurants, preceeded by Urban Solace in North Park and followed by the newly opened Sea and Smoke in Del Mar. Like all his restaurants it follows Matt’s philosophy of using regionally sourced, high quality, hand crafted products and ingredients.
Just this month Chef Steve Molina was brought on board to run the kitchen after the departure of Chef Ryan Studebaker. Molina comes off of running the kitchen at Delicias restaurant in Ranch Santa Fe. He has worked at Savory, Kitchen 1540, under Chef Paul McCabe, who he then followed to Delicias, where he took over as Chef after McCabe’s departure. As you can see Molina comes with a strong background honed in some great local restaurants. It will be interesting to see his impact on the menu once he is settled in at Solace.
Grass-fed Beef Tartar ~ Grass-fed beef, chilled poached egg, capers, pickled onions, and shaved parmesan.
Roasted Pork Loin Sandwich ~ Roasted pork, caramelized onion, fig jam, cambazola cheese, arugula, on an egg bun served with Kennebec fries.
*Note ~ Kennebec potatoes apparently lend them self to being used for fries and they must because these were some of the best fries I have eaten. Perfectly crisp and fluffy. I’m sure execution and the seasoning played a hand in their perfection as well.
