I was luck enough to have a Chef friend invite me out to lunch to check this place out. There is no way I would have found it without her. It’s located in a strip mall on the south side of the 78 on Hacienda Drive, more than that it’s tucked into the back corner. Trust me, it is worth the effort to find.
North County International Market is a Persian Market and Restaurant. The market sells lots of great middle Eastern products and some Russian staples as well. It’s one of those places I could spend all day going…what is this and what does it taste like?
Teas, flavored concentrates and syrups
The market is only part of it though because they also serve very traditional, very good Persian food.
The Owner Hamed Salmasi runs the market and cooks all of the daily dishes, his wife helps run the front of the house and his mother prepares all of the weekly specials. truly a family run business.
Mint and Yogurt Soda.
Lubia Polo ~ Basmati rice, green beans, sirloin, special seasoning, tomato and cucumber salad.
The salad is chopped to order and the Lubia Polo is very flavorfull.
Kubideh and Chicken ~ Kubideh kabob, chicken kabob, rice, grilled tomato, and onion.
The Kubideh was so good, as was everything else. Talking to Hamed, he said he uses more expensive cuts of meats in order to retain the tenderness and flavor. You could tell because even while casually eating and talking the Kubideh and the Barg ( Barg is filet mignon, which I forgot to take pictures of because I was enjoying my meal so much) were as tender and juicy later in the meal as they were when they were served.
If you get a chance go off the beaten path and check this place out. They have daily specials Monday through Friday, I really want to go back on a Friday and try the Lamb Shank with Basmati rice mixed with dill and Lima beans.
