So, in interest of full disclosure (actually not full disclosure but disclosure on this subject) I now work part-time at Savory Spice Shop in Encinitas. In doing research I have learned to peruse Craigslist. It is a good source to finding out what is going on in the restaurant world. I came across an ad that Savory Spice shop was hiring and decided to apply. I’m glad I did not only because the owners are great to work for but it can only strengthen my food knowledge. Plus now, this is all disposable income that can go back into this site.
Savory is a company out of Denver with around 30 locations. The Encinitas location is owned and operated by Stephanie and Jason Birn. They opened the location three years ago in the Lumberyard Center on the 101. Savory carries around 400 spices and 160 plus custom spice blends. All the spices are ground weekly in the Denver warehouse and come in to each location bulk and are put together on site.
The cool thing is that a majority of the spices can be sold in quantities as small as a single ounce. This great for trying things out or when you just need a few teaspoons for a recipe.

If you get a chance come by and check the shop out it’s a lot of fun.
