So even though they just came off their soft opening week I decided to go and try Bagby Beer Company with a good friend.
First off; they do not open at 12 PM… 11AM is usually the restaurant standard. I made plans to meet up at 11 and “nope we do not open till noon”. Now this could be on me but if you do not post your hours then what can I do?
Luckily, I’m adaptable, so we walked over to Local Tap House which, guess what opens at 11…..If I was not hell-bent and promised my friend to go to Bagby. I would have walked away eaten at LTH and never looked back. Things happen for a reason. While grabbing a beer and an iced tea at LTH Chef Daniel was nice enough to give us this little gift.
Pork belly, beer cheese sauce, hierloom tomatoes, whatever…pure perfection.
Great interior, explore a bit before choosing a seat. Only a part of the space is open right now but there are still lots of options. More about seating later.
These will be the best seats in the house.
Outside patio area and my friend with her huge ass purse.
Food and Beer
I was really not going to comment too much on their food as they are still really young but the food was insane. We only had one pizza the “Show Off” but it was probably the best pizza I have had. Understand that is an accolade I do not throw lightly.
BACK GARDEN PALE ALE ~ 4.7% ABV Thier description is like a paragraph long …its a good summer ale. (Ice Tea in the background)
duck confit | roasted red pepper | brussel sprout | garlic chèvre | house pesto sauce
Yep..eat this. The duck does not matter because it is not about it and adds nothing . That being said every other element works perfectly. We devoured this.
So I already complained about their opening hours now on to the other thing….
Two things actually. The seating…uncomfortable. The bar stools look great but are form over function. When your partner is complaining about her back and you look around and a lot of people are standing versus sitting it should be a red flag. We did not look around though as they do have other seating options in the back area of the bar. I would opt for these.
Second Service…not so much service because our waitress and bussers were great and friendly. It’s more of a call out on an unprofessional move.
Let me explain I eat out tons, I work with Chefs, Servers and Bartenders…I know what I’m talking about.
Here is what happened.
We were really easy customers, did not ask questions, did not take up the waitresses time, and literally were in and out.
I ,as a rule, tip 20% even with bad service, OK? When you give me change back that forces me to tip 25% or leave you a dollar your trying to insure your tip…of course I tipped the 25% but that should be my decision.
