One of the restaurants I have been anticipating the most is finally open, well actually it officially opens Saturday December 20th. I am talking about BLVD Chinese Kitchen and Sake Bar.
Blvd takes over the old Fish joint spot at 514 S Coast Hwy. The former Sushi Bar has been re-fashioned into a 35 seat dinning room featuring dark wood tones and industrial light fixtures. The rear wall features stainless steel and an open kitchen.
Seating is divided between two large communal tables, a few banquet seats, and a number of wall bar style seating.

Chef / Owner Alfred Sheik
Chef / Owner Alfred Sheik came to America in his teens. His family bought and started running a traditional Chinese restaurant in North Park where Alfred worked with his mother. Later Alfred was able to attend culinary school, after graduating he wanted to open a place of his own drawing on his Chinese background and bringing in classic techniques and local sourced produce in order to bring a unique twist to his dishes.

As Blvd was getting close to opening Alfred reconnected with Chef Joey Mejia, a friend from culinary school, who was moving back to California after spending time opening a restaurant in Arizona. The two had always talked about opening a place together and now everything pointed to this being the right place at the right time. Chef Mejia’s background makes for a perfect fit.. His grandfather opened the first Chinese restaurant in San Diego and his Latin roots reflect the tastes and flavors familiar in Southern California.
The day I was invited to stop by they were featuring a few of the menu items.

Wings ~ Perfectly sweet and sticky
Mushrooms ~You could eat these like pop corn.
Fish Taco ~ just the right amount of acid from the pickling juice used on the cabbage and peppers.
The concept is small plates meant for sharing, just be careful because you wont want to share.

Short rib Sliders, BBQ Singapore Noodles, Salt and Pepper Chicken Bites, Sausage Fried Rice
They will feature Sake based cocktails like “The Bikini Bottom” a pineapple sake mix with hints of ginger and Chinese 5 spice.
Grand opening is this Saturday December 20th at noon.
Regular hours will be 11 am to 10 pm Tuesday thru Sunday, closed on Mondays.
I’m glad to have them as an addition to the Oceanside culinary scene and will be back for a more in-depth look at the food after the New Year.
