Taste and Sea Cakery is located at 918 N. Coast Highway 101 in Leucadia ( on the west side near the corner of Coast Highway just before Leucadia Blvd.).
Taste and Sea is run by Pastry Chef Brittany Austin. Brittany has quite a background, she is a graduate of the San Diego Culinary institute of San Diego. She also worked on the pastry team at the Grand Del Mar providing pastry for their special events, weddings, and the restaurant Amaya. More recently she was pastry chef for Clair’s on Cedros.
Like a lot of pastry chefs I talk with their long-term goal is to open their own place where they can freely express themselves. That is true for most Chefs actually. So that is what Brittany has done.
The majority of the business at Taste and Sea comes from the whole sale side. They provide pastries for Nordstrom department stores, local restaurants (like Solterra) and create special event cakes and pastries to order.
Because these are made to order items I had to pull pictures off their site. They are quite impressive. Brittany said one of the most rewarding aspects of her job is working with a client personally to help create their vision.
My nephew Josh would go crazy for the minion cake…we would never be able to eat it.
In addition to the custom and whole sale baking Taste and Sea also has a small retail space.
I really liked the feel of the interior, I’m pretty hyper and I found it very calming.
Here are some of their beautiful pastries (I lost my notebook recently so you’ll have to use your eyes and imagination)
Smores Bar ~ Marshmallow, Chocolate, Graham Cracker base.
I took one of these home and loved it, great balance of tartness to sweetness.
Scone and a cappuccino
If you are looking for a special occasion cake or just want to grab some coffee and dessert I would diffidently stop in to Taste and Sea Cakery.
