Opening Day~Privateer Marketplace & Wine Bar~Oceanside

So, had to stop by for The Privateer Marketplace & Wine Bar’s soft opening, man am I glad I did. I knew it was going to be good being conceived and run by the Privateer Team, but it blew me away.

Lets start with the look. Clean black and white color scheme, that is modern but not cold. They did a good job of giving this space its own identity rather than just an add-on to the existing restaurant.

The market features the following…..

a deli style counter where you can order sandwiches, meat and cheese plates (like I did), desserts, or charcuterie to go.

Sides and salads to go with your meats.

A take away section.

A wine and beer bar featuring a lot of beer you can not find anywhere else in Oceanside and a paired down, smart wine list consisting of 3 reds and 3 whites.

They have their own wine cellar.

on to food…

All the meats are cure or smoked in-house. Actually 90% of everything is made in-house or sourced from local Oceanside vendors.

Case in point the meat and cheese board…home made pickle, mustard, Sauerkraut, cured meats. The cheese is not (There are no cheese makers in San Diego at the moment.)

Also the Pastrami Sandwich ~ House cured pastrami (the best I have had), Housemade sauerkraut, house-made stone ground mustard, on Prager Brothers (Carlsbad) Rye. “What Son?” (that means you gotta be kidding me)

Desserts come from two of the best Pastry Chefs in San Diego with Annalise Brolaski owner / Chef of Deep Sea Desserts doing the gluten-free and vegan offerings and Christine Loyola Owner / Chef of Petite Madeline doing the remaining desserts. Also they have House made sorbet. The Strawberry uses fruit from Oceanside’s Cyclops Farms.

These empty crates will house produce from Oceanside’s Cyclops Farms in the future.

Future Home of Organic goodness from Cyclops Farms.

The Gang Behind The Greatness

If Privateer Marketplace & Wine Bar is this Bad Ass just starting out, I can not wait to see what it grows into.

Go Oceanside, Go Locals, Go North County…Happy Chris:)
