Swami’s Flagship ~ Oceanside

So, Swami’s is kind of a local institution. They have 9 restaurants most notably along the coast in Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside. Recently they moved into the old gun shop location on the corner of Mission and Coast Highway, undertaking a huge remodel of the spot, obtaining a liquor license, and planning to do dinner service.

I went this past Friday for lunch with a friend to check the build out and grab some food.

As with other locations you order, pay and then seat yourself.

Line out the door always a good sign…lets play spot the Chef:)

The menu is pretty familiar but they have added a few new dishes to the specials menu. This is smart while breaking in. They will have to adjust the menu for dinner, as I am sure they will, a Caesar Wrap with a beer does not sound like a night out.

The space is actually smaller than the exterior lets on. This may be due to the height of the ceiling. The wood and brick are a great look and the craftsmanship is spot on.

Very open and airy interior.

Food…

I had the Diablo Shrimp Tacos which were huge and really good. I would order these again.

They also had a steak sandwich on the menu that I almost went for. I will have to come back once they open for dinner service. If you liked the old Swami’s you will love this one, if your new, it is beautiful location with solid healthy food and a menu that pretty much has something for everyone. Also with the patio it is dog friendly.
